Design with Hannah: Trend Ins + Outs – What You Need to Know

Updated: May 26

Hey Fam!

Design trends are always evolving, especially when the new year rolls around. It’s part of my job to keep you all updated on what’s trending in the design world right now. Today, we’re diving into the 2025 Design Ins and Outs!

Design Ins for 2025

Curated Timeless Decor: Curated timeless decor is making waves in 2025. The focus now is on sourcing pieces that are perfectly matched to the specific style of your home. People want individuality and uniqueness instead of just following trends. It’s a great way to make your home stand out and feel personal, without just copying what everyone else is doing.

Polished Nickel: Polished nickel is in! It's sleek, elegant, and more versatile than the more traditional gold or brass finishes we’ve seen in recent years. It has a subtle warmth that complements almost any color scheme. If you're looking for a refined yet understated finish, polished nickel is the way to go.

Semi-Open Concept: The semi-open concept is gaining popularity because it gives you the best of both worlds. People still want connection, but they also crave separation of spaces. This trend lets you create distinct areas within your home while maintaining that flow between rooms. One of my favorite examples is a beautiful, arched semi-barrier that gently divides the kitchen from the family room—subtle, yet effective.

Color-Drenched Rooms: Color-drenched rooms are a bold trend for 2025, and honestly, I’m all for it! Some people love it, and some people aren’t so sure, but I think it’s a game-changer. It’s all about embracing color to the fullest, even letting the paint touch the ceiling and baseboards. Sometimes, you've got to take risks and go all out. If a client is up for it, I’m all in!

Design Outs for 2025

Squiggle Shapes: Squiggle shapes were cute and trendy in 2024, but they’re kind of losing their charm. Don’t get me wrong—when done right and curated to fit a space, they can still work. But for the most part, this bubbly, whimsical design trend has had its moment and is officially out for 2025.

Fully Open Floor Plans: If the semi-open concept is in, then fully open floor plans are definitely out. People are craving more intimacy and defined spaces. The idea of having everything wide open doesn’t give the sense of separation people are looking for anymore.

Generic Decor: Gone are the days of picking decor just to fill a space. Buying random pieces just because they’re available isn’t cutting it anymore. In 2025, people want decor that makes sense for their space—something that’s thoughtfully curated and takes time to plan. Generic decor is a definite no-go.

Strictly Gold or Brass Accents: As much as I loved the gold and brass craze, polished nickel is the new trend. It’s sleek, modern, and versatile, and it doesn’t overwhelm the space like gold sometimes can. It’s a fresh, more balanced approach to hardware and finishes.
