A Designer’s Guide to Fall Color Palettes
If you know me, you know I love fall — and I’m not shy about it. I consider August 1st the official start of the season, no matter what the calendar (or the weather) says. While Starbucks might hold out on their pumpkin spice lattes a little longer than I’d like, I’m already pulling out my cozy layers and leaning into the autumn mood — even if it’s still 100 degrees outside.
And because I want you to feel that same cozy, inspired energy in your home, I’ve put together a few fall color palettes I’m loving right now. These Sherwin-Williams combinations are versatile, elevated, and perfect for bringing a little seasonal magic into your space without feeling overdone. You don’t even have to commit to painting — these palettes work beautifully as inspiration for décor too. Swap in throw pillows, blankets, rugs, or art in these tones for a less permanent (but equally cozy) way to refresh your space.

Palette 1: Kilim Beige | Cavern Clay | Natural Linen
This palette is the design equivalent of a cashmere sweater — soft, timeless, and effortlessly refined. Natural Linen makes for a beautiful base, creating a calm, airy backdrop that lets other elements shine. Cavern Clay brings a grounded richness, adding just enough warmth to make the room feel inviting without being heavy. Kilim Beige bridges the two, softening the overall look and keeping the palette approachable. Perfect for living rooms, bedrooms, or anywhere you want a classic but cozy feel.

Palette 2: Felted Wool | Baked Clay | Mega Greige
If you’re drawn to more depth but don’t want your home to feel dark, this palette is a dream. Felted Wool’s gray undertones create a sophisticated base, while Mega Greige warms it up, making the combo feel lived-in and approachable. Baked Clay acts as the quiet statement — its earthy hue adds personality without shouting for attention. Ideal for spaces where you want that moody, layered look (like a library, dining room, or cozy den).

Palette 3: Evergreen Fog | Wheat Penny | Alabaster
Sometimes fall calls for a little energy — and this palette delivers while staying elevated. Evergreen Fog is that perfect muted green that feels both fresh and grounding. Wheat Penny brings in a coppery warmth that catches the light beautifully. Alabaster balances the richness, keeping everything bright and breathable. This combo works wonderfully in kitchens, mudrooms, or even a front door refresh.
Final Thoughts
Fall is the perfect excuse to refresh your home’s palette, even if it’s just in small ways — a feature wall, new textiles, or seasonal décor in these tones. Whether you’re leaning into warm neutrals, embracing moody depth, or adding a playful seasonal twist, the right colors can make your home feel like it’s wrapping you in a soft blanket the moment you walk in.
So grab your favorite fall drink (even if you have to make it at home for now), pull together some swatches, and start imagining the cozy season ahead.
Xoxo,
Hannah
