“Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.” Job 13:15
What if everything you loved was taken from you? What if the people you trusted most turned against you, and the ones you confided in told you it was your fault? What if, in the middle of your deepest pain, God seemed silent?
This month’s Eternity Series blog is all about trust! Trusting God when nothing makes sense, when life feels unfair, and when you can’t see what He’s doing. We’re looking at one of the oldest and most powerful stories in Scripture: the story of Job. A man who lost everything, yet never lost his faith.
Who Was Job
The Bible describes Job as “blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil.” (Job 1:1) He was wealthy, respected, and blessed in every area of his life. But behind the scenes, something was happening in the spiritual realm.
Satan challenged God, claiming that Job only served Him because his life was easy. God allowed Satan to test Job, but with limits. God said, “Everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Job 1:12
Even in this, we see God’s heart. He set boundaries on what the enemy could do. God was still in full control.
When It All Fell Apart
In one devastating day, Job lost almost everything. His children, his servants, his livestock, and his home were all gone. His entire world crumbled in front of him.
What would you do in that moment? Would you turn from God, or would you turn to Him?
Job chose to worship.“The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” (Job 1:21)
That is what real trust looks like. Worshiping God even when your heart is breaking.
The Second Test
Satan came back to God again and said that if Job’s body were afflicted, he would surely curse God. Once again, God allowed the test but set another limit. “You may strike his flesh and bones, but you must spare his life.” (Job 2:6)
Soon, Job was covered in painful sores from head to toe. His health failed, his wealth was gone, and even his wife said, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die.” (Job 2:9)
But Job replied, “Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” Job 2:10Even in his pain, he stayed faithful.
Job's Friends
When Job’s three friends arrived, they sat with him in silence for seven days. They saw how deep his pain was and didn’t know what to say. But when they finally spoke, their words brought even more hurt.
They accused Job of sin and said he must have done something to deserve this. They told him God was fair and that if he were righteous, this wouldn’t be happening.
Their words wounded deeper than his sores, yet Job defended his integrity and cried out for God to answer. He wanted understanding.
Finally, God spoke.
God’s Response
Out of a whirlwind, God reminded Job who He was.“Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?” (Job 38:4)
God wasn’t being harsh. He was revealing His wisdom and reminding Job that His understanding is far greater than ours. There are things we can’t see, but God always knows what He’s doing.
In the end, Job humbled himself before God and said, “I know that You can do all things; no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.” (Job 42:2)
Then God restored everything Job had and even blessed him with more than before. Job lived a long, full, and peaceful life.
What This Means for Us
Just as God allowed Job’s tests, He still allows trials in our lives today. Not to harm us, but to refine our faith and bring us closer to Him.
When you find yourself asking “why, God,” remember this truth:“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)
We may not always get the answers we want, but we can rest in knowing that God is good, He is just, and He never leaves us. Even in silence, He is near.
When life feels uncertain, worship Him anyway. When you can’t see the way forward, trust Him anyway. Because on the other side of every test is a deeper faith and an eternal reminder that God is faithful. Always.
Prayer and Reflection
Father, when everything falls apart, help us trust You. Even when You seem silent, remind us that You are near. Strengthen our hearts to endure trials with faith like Job — humble, steadfast, and unshakable. Thank You that Your wisdom is greater than ours and that every test You allow has purpose. May our response be worship, and may our hearts always trust in You. Amen.
Until Next Time,
